What began as an ordinary jury trial day in Baxter County Circuit Court took an unusual direction Thursday morning. The process for selecting a jury was about to begin, Judge John Putman was preparing to preside and the prosecution and defense were in place. However, the day became anything but ordinary after 26-year-old Anjanette Yancy of Little Rock, who first appeared for her trial, reportedly left the court complex.

Fourteenth District Prosecutor David Ethredge says because Yancy left, a failure to appear warrant has been issued for her arrest.

Last November, Yancy was arrested and charged in connection with breaking into multiple vehicles and stealing debit and credit cards from several victims.

According to an arrest affidavit, a Mountain Home officer took a report of a vehicle break-in at a local business on Oct. 18. The victim said both windows were broken while her vehicle was parked at the business. She alleged her wallet was taken and contained identification and bank cards. A phone, a jacket and $30 in cash were also reportedly stolen.

Nearly two hours later, another officer was dispatched to Baxter Regional Medical Center for two vehicle break-ins. The first victim said she came out of the hospital on her break and noticed her passenger window was broken. She reported her purse, driver’s license, credit and debit cards and cash were stolen from the vehicle.

The second victim at the hospital said she came out and noticed her passenger window had also been broken. She alleged her purse, driver’s license, credit card and cash were stolen. While talking with the officer, the victim was contacted by the credit card company who informed her the card was being used at Walmart in Mountain Home. Video surveillance reportedly captured two females using the stolen card in a self checkout register and exiting the store.

A police sergeant was dispatched to the hospital for two more vehicle break-ins. Security noticed a vehicle in the parking lot with its passenger window broken and notified the victim. The victim stated she didn’t believe anything was missing at the time.

The second victim stated she started getting fraud alerts on her phone. She checked her vehicle and noticed the passenger window was broken, and her purse containing bank cards and cash was missing.

Two females were reportedly observed at the self checkout register at Walmart having issues with the credit cards they were using. One woman, identified as Yancy, was detained and questioned at the store, and the other female suspect fled.

Yancy allegedly gave a fictitious name and date of birth post Miranda. Walmart provided receipts from her purchases reflecting the amount and credit card numbers, and both females matched the photos of the previous forgeries and thefts at the store. Total restitution is over $7,200.

Yancy was charged with five felony counts of breaking or entering, 12 of second-degree forgery, four of theft of property and four of criminal mischief, as well as a misdemeanor count of obstruction of governmental operations. Her bond was set at $75,000.
