An Ozark County man was injured Monday afternoon after his 18-wheeler caught fire in Howell County, and he was struck by an exploding tire. Seventy-year-old William Shannon of Theodosia was transported by ambulance to Ozarks Healthcare in West Plains with minor injuries.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Shannon was traveling on U.S. Highway 63. He was nearly three miles north of Willow Springs when the trailer he was towing caught fire. Shannon reportedly stopped the 18-wheeler and attempted to extinguish the blaze, but a tire on the trailer exploded and struck him.
The cab was not damaged in the 3:30 p.m. incident.
