A woman entered a guilty plea to theft and drug charges during a session of Baxter County Circuit Court Monday.

Sixty-five-year-old Cynthia Lynn Ferguson was sentenced to six years probation and ordered to pay $1,500 in restitution. It was announced in court that the money had been paid in full.

In one case, Ferguson was charged with selling a 1984 Chevrolet Blazer for scrap. The vehicle belonged to another person who had parked it on Ferguson’s property.

At the time, the property was being rented by the victim’s ex-husband. It was planned that the ex-husband and the victim’s daughter would work on the vehicle and get it in shape for the daughter to drive when she turned 16-years-old.

When her ex-husband was arrested in an unrelated incident, the victim and two other people attempted to remove the Blazer from Ferguson’s property.

Ferguson called the sheriff’s office and told responding deputies that the victim and the others did not have permission to take possession of the vehicle and were not allowed on the property.

At the time, the victim was not able to produce a title for the vehicle.

In a later contact with Ferguson, an investigator from the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office was told by her that she had sold the vehicle for scrap and was paid $100.

The victim was able to produce a duplicate title for the Blazer and Ferguson was arrested and charged with theft of property and forgery.

In mid-August last year, Ferguson was arrested on drug charges after a vehicle she was driving was stopped for minor traffic violations.

At the time, Ferguson was on probation with an active search waiver on file, permitting a warrantless search of her person and property.

In her purse, a Baxter County sheriff’s deputy found a glass smoking device. He also reported observing that Ferguson appeared to be hiding something in her hand.

The items proved to be a “white tube” containing a small plastic bag holding a substance field-testing positive for methamphetamine.
