Friday results include Norfork baseball, Cotter softball teams falling in regional semifinals

Several area baseball and softball teams continued regional tournament play on Friday.

Norfork’s baseball team had a rough outing in the semifinals of the Class 1A Region 2 Tournament at Marked Tree as they fell to Armorel 8-5. The Panthers will compete in the third place game against Hillcrest Saturday at noon.

Jasper finished as the runner-up of the Class 1A Region 2 Baseball Tournament at the Equity Bank Sports Complex in Harrison. The Pirates won their semifinal game over County Line with a 4-0 shutout. Jasper did not fare as well in the title game as they fell to Scranton 11-1.

In other baseball, Bakersfield lost to Dora 4-3, and Gainesville blanked Fordland 8-0.

The Cotter softball team will be sent to the third place game of the Class 2A West Regional Tournament at Lavaca after losing to the host Lady Golden Arrows 3-0. The Lady Warriors will face Magazine Saturday at noon.

Viola fell in the semifinals of the Class 1A Region 2 Softball Tournament at Marked Tree as they suffered a 12-2 defeat at the hands of Concord. The Lady Longhorns take on Greers Ferry West Side for third place Saturday at noon.

Two area softball teams were victorious in the semifinals of the Class 3A Region 2 Tournament at Rivercrest High School in Wilson. Salem got past the host Lady Colts 5-2, and Melbourne doubled up Gosnell 4-2. The Lady Greyhounds and Lady Bearkatz will square off for the championship Saturday at 2:30.

Valley Springs’ softball team finished third in the Class 3A Region 1 Tournament at the Equity Bank Sports Complex. The Lady Tigers began the day with an 8-0 loss to Hackett in the semifinals. Valley Springs bounced back as a walkoff base hit gave them the 8-7 victory over Booneville.

Two area softball teams played on the final day of the Class 1A Region 1 Tournament at Harrison. Lead Hill lost to County Line 17-2 in the semifinals, and Jasper fell to Scranton 15-0. The Lady Tigers later got beat Lady Pirates 21-16 in the third place game.

District play began for spring softball in Missouri, and two area teams played their openers in the Class 1, District 4 Tournament at Mansfield.
In a battle between Lady Lions, Bakersfield was edged out by the host school 11-10. Bakersfield’s season comes to an end with a record of 8-12.
Dora was also one and done in the tournament as they lost to Fordland 7-4. The Lady Falcons’ final record for the year is 2-10.

Two area schools were in Mountain Grove for the start of the Class 2, District 4 Tournament.
Gainesville was eliminated after suffering a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Willow Springs. Gainesville’s season ends at 5-14.
Ava advanced to the semifinals after shutting out Mountain View-Liberty 15-0. The top-seeded Lady Bears improve to 17-6 on the year, and they’ll play Mountain Grove Saturday morning at 10.

Forsyth began hosting the Class 2, District 5 Tournament.
Hollister was bounced from the opening round after losing to top-seeded Strafford 15-0. The Lady Tigers wrap up the season at 2-16.
Forsyth will be Strafford’s next opponent in Monday’s semifinals after they squeaked by Clever 4-3. The host Lady Panthers are now 15-15 on the year.
