Since its incorporation by Congress in 1919, the American Legion has been an organization of veterans working to serve others who have served the country. Veterans and their families in the Twin Lakes Area are served by the Alley-White American Legion Post 52.

Veterans Service Officer Frank Kaye will be a guest on an upcoming episode of the Talk of the Town on KTLO-FM, and he says when it comes to helping veterans, the American Legion has four pillars it follows.

In 2020 and 2021, the American Legion secured nearly $14.5 billion in Veterans Affairs disability benefits through free assistance. In addition, $12.5 million were raised by American Legion Riders through their annual Legacy Scholarship Run to provide college scholarships to children of military service men and women who died in action or became disabled in relation to their service.

Memorial Day will be coming up May 27. While many see the holiday as the unofficial start to summer, Kaye says it means much more to the American Legion.
