A golf tournament will be held next month in memory of long-time area educator and coach Larry McKinney. The Mac Memorial is scheduled for July 13 at Diamond Hills Country Club in Diamond City.

McKinney worked in the Arkansas education system for over 50 years as a coach, teacher and administrator. He coached hundreds of students in basketall, football, track, tennis, golf, softball, baseball and volleyball. McKinney is a former girls’ basketball coach at Flippin High School and a former coach and administrator at the Bergman School District. He became the girls’ basketball coach at Alpena in 2014. He was promoted as the district’s superintendent in June of 2022 and served in that position until his death the following March.

The day begins with registration at 8, and the shotgun start is an hour later. The cost for the four-person scramble is $300 per team, and lunch and refreshments are included. The special events package is an extra $25 per golfer and includes closest to the pin contests, a putting contest, the skins game, mulligans and door prizes. Golf cart reservations are available for an extra $20 and can be made by calling Diamond Hills at 870-422-7613.

For those unable to compete in the tournament, donations will be accepted, and all proceeds will go toward area booster clubs. For more information, contact Joe McKinney at 870-391-6153 or Rory Bradley at 501-253-5312.
