After the Izard County School Board approved the hire of a head football coach, they ended up hiring another one weeks later. Chase Brody, originally hired to coach the Cougars’ offensive and defensive lines, was promoted to lead the program after JR Tolleson decided to return to the college level.

Brody says he was excited to learn he was getting the position, although it was in an unusual manner.

Brody was hired as an assistant coach at Izard County a few months ago after previously serving as an assistant at Pea Ridge. During his time with the Blackhawks, he coached the offensive and defensive lines and the tight ends.

Brody is inheriting a Cougar program transitioning to the traditional 11-man form of the game after playing eight-man football the previous two seasons, and he says there are a lot of questions left to be answered for his squad.

Another challenge for Izard County in its move to 11-man football is the conference they’ll be in. The Cougars are members of the 2A-2 with Cross County, Des Arc, Earle, East Poinsett County, Marianna, Marked Tree and McCrory. Brody says they’re jumping into a league with schools known to produce great athletes, but if his team can be strategic and confident in their approach, it could go a long way into potential success.
