High school football dominates the local Friday schedule as conference play begins for most teams in Arkansas, including Mountain Home. The Bombers will be in Fort Smith to meet Southside for their 6A-West opener.
Mountain Home is looking to go 4-0 for the first time since 1986. The Bombers finished non-conference play last week with a 25-point win over Rolla, Mo. Southside is also 3-0 on the season as they’ll be wrapping up a three-game home stand. The Mavericks are coming off a 13-point win over Little Rock Southwest.
Mountain Home head coach Steve Ary says he sees some similarities between his team and Southside that deal with more than their win-loss records.

Kickoff at Jim Rowland Stadium is scheduled for 7. Friday’s game will be broadcast on Classic Hits 101.7 and streaming live at ktlo.com and the Bomber Sports Network on YouTube. Radio coverage begins around 5:15 with Electric Cooperatives of Arkansas High School Gameday.

The 6A-West slate also has a matchup of teams in the Arkansas Sports Media Top 10 as third-ranked Greenwood travels to Springdale to meet No. 8 Shiloh Christian. Elsewhere, Russellville hosts Van Buren, and Siloam Springs entertains Lake Hamilton.

Yellville-Summit will also be on the road for its first game of league play. The Panthers’ opening opponent in the 3A-2 will be Quitman, who will be having its homecoming night.
Yellville-Summit brings a mark of 2-1 into the contest. The Panthers were able to get past Berryville by a touchdown in last week’s home opener. Quitman is currently 1-2 on the year. The Bulldogs suffered a five-point defeat last Friday at Mineral Springs.
Quitman is a program that doesn’t get much attention statewide, but Yellville-Summit head coach Chaseton McCarthy says that could work to the Bulldogs’ advantage if his Panthers are not ready.

On the eight-man level, Marshall is home against South Side-Bee Branch.
