A Twin Lakes area native will receive a big honor this weekend. Forrest Wood will be part of the third class inducted into the Trout Hall of Fame during Saturday's Trout Nature Center Banquet inside the Vada Sheid Community Development Center on the ASU-Mountain Home campus.
Wood is known worldwide for his success in the sport fishing industry. In the 1950s, he was considered a top fishing guide on Bull Shoals Lake, the White River, the Buffalo National River, and Crooked Creek. In 1968, Wood founded Ranger Boats in Flippin, and it is the largest manufacturer of premium fiberglass fishing boats in the United States. Wood began serving a seven-year term as a member of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission in 1998, and he was the chairman in his last year. In 2005, the AGFC dedicated the Forrest L. Wood Crowley's Ridge Nature Center in Jonesboro.
The Trout Hall of Fame Program will begin at 5:30 Saturday night inside the Sheid followed by a live auction. Dinner will be served at 6:30. Tickets can be purchased at Dally's Ozark Fly Fishers of Cotter, the Mountain Home Chamber of Commerce, First Security Bank, First National Bank and Trust, FNBC, Rivertown Gallery, and TLC Bank's Mountain Home branch.
