Mary Anne Benson, a volunteer at Serenity Inc., a non-profit organization supporting victims of domestic violence, is one of six individuals in the state to win Volunteer of the Year honors. Benson, semi- finalist Jo Belle Zimmerman of Norfork and other candidates were guests recently at a luncheon hosted by Arkansas First Lady Ginger Beebe at the Governor's Mansion in Little Rock. Later that day they were honored at a separate reception and awards program at the University of Central Arkansas in Conway.
Serenity Inc. Director Paulette Hill said that Benson was initially nominated for volunteer of the month of May. KARK-Channel 4 in Little Rock came to Mountain Home to interview her and the story aired May 28. Shortly after, Benson received the good news.
