The Computer Information Systems department at Arkansas State University-Mountain Home (ASUMH) prepares students for good jobs, advanced college degrees, and the 21st century. Four students at ASUMH recently earned the coveted A+ industry certification for computer technicians. Jonathon Perrin, Ryan Foreman, Herschel Cox, and Eric Stetler all were awarded the distinction.

ASU-Mountain Home offers the A+ certification program that is an international, vendor-neutral, entry-level certification recognized by major hardware and software vendors, distributors, and resellers. The A+ certification confirms a technician's ability to perform computer tasks such as installation, configuration, diagnosing, preventive maintenance, and security.

ASU-Mountain Home also offers the CiscoNetworkingAcademy as a stand-alone program for individuals interested in learning networking skills and preparing for the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification exam. The CiscoNetworkingAcademy curriculum covers a broad range of topics, from basic networking skills such as pulling cable to more complex concepts such as applying advanced troubleshooting tools, while working with Cisco's state-of-the-art networking equipment. The program can also serve as the cornerstone of a two-year degree in networking.

The demand for skilled network and computer support professionals continues to grow. Obtaining an industry certification is a valuable credential to help start or enhance a career in the IT field. By incorporating a Computer Information Systems degree along with an industry certification, students can increase their employment potential.
