Local Artists and Volunteers have donated their time and talent to raise funds for Gamma House, a transitional housing shelter for women and children. Pictured is the Red Adirondack chair created by Duane Hada. This beautiful chair is Duane’s take on the skin of a brown trout. The Auction will be held Tuesday night at 6:00 pm at the home of Lane and Judy Strother on the corner of Cardinal and 4th Street. Tickets can be purchased at Gregory Jewelers.
#1 DUANE HADA’S BROWN TROUT
The Gamma House requested a piece of Duane Hada’s art and he gladly agreed creating not one but two one of a kind outdoor chairs. This red Adirondack speaks from Mr. Hada’s fun side. Air brushing and bright colors add an eclectic flair of Duane’s take on the skin of a brown trout. Perfect for any décor or theme and absolutely one of a kind!!
#2 DUANE HADA’S LOG ADIRONDACK
An Adirondack chair was the perfect canvas for the art of acclaimed local artist Duane Hada.
Duane’s love for the outdoors coupled with his experience as a fishing guide made this “log-style” chair an ideal place to paint one of the species of fish found here in our “home waters.” The chair was donated by a Mennonite wood craftsman.
#3 STORYBOOK CHAIR
Local artist and children’s storybook author Dorothy Anderson and Carole Tormey Jones collaborated on this incredible “storybook “chair. The chair features scenes from a yet to be published children’s book all about Princess Paisley. The detail and artistry is incredible and the chair includes a lap blanket for the storyteller and the listener along with two of the stuffed animal characters from the book. An absolute treasure for some lucky bidder!!
#4 HANDPAINTED HIGHCHAIR
Purchased at a garage sale and terribly worn, this highchair probably seated more diapered bottoms than it cares to remember. Thanks to one very talented and creative artist it has a whole new lease on life!! Natalie Slusser, owner of Mommy and Me, had a specific idea of what this old highchair could be. She, with some assistance from Judy Strother, hand painted the entire chair in a whimsical checkered design with apple green and gold leaf accents. Cheerios will taste better than ever on this highchair tray!!
#5 MARY ENGLEBREIT CHAIR
An entire industry has grown up around Mary Englebreit. Known for nostalgic warmth, bright colors and spirited wit, her style is iconic. This chair was found at a local thrift store and cleaned , painted and upholstered by Gloria Mikesch.
#6 RATTAN WINGBACK
Highly collectable and made from bamboo this rattan wingback is as comfortable as it is attractive. A family treasure, the chair was re furbished and upholstered then donated by Ron Lawrence. Perfect for an early morning cup of coffee!!
#7 WALNUT ROCKER
Don Cox, hospice volunteer and woodcrafter, handmade and donated this beautiful child’s rocker. It is crafted from walnut and features a cane back and seat. Ideal for rocking a doll or perfect to decorate with.
#8 MIKE’S CHAIR
Literally saved from the landfill…… this chair was sitting out waiting to be hoisted into the dumpster. Gamma House board member Peggy Welch saw its potential and saved it from its certain fate. The chair was refinished by board member Mike Beam and cushions and pillows were added by Natalie Slusser. The chair is sturdy and dependable and invites even the ruddiest of cowboys to kick off their boots and take a load off. (Even a holster on the side to quick draw the remote!)
#9 CHALK PAINT DESK
This antique style student desk was discovered, transformed, and upholstered then donated by Fabrications. Christie Cooper and Joan Barnett donated this shabby chic, hand chalk painted desk. Notice the unique upholstery with great colors and accents. Fabrications is located on College Street in Mountain Home.
#10 TABLE AND FOUR CHAIRS
This antique table and chairs could probably boast of family dinners, discussions, even family feuds. It was donated to the Gamma House by a dear friend of Gamma. She brought it saying she just didn’t have the space for it anymore and her husband told her to find a home for it. It had hand done cane bottom seats that showed years of wear and tear with one completely destroyed. Kristi Kesler saw the beauty in the set and took on the entire project. Tightening chairs, staining the cane work, and adding a beautiful coat of celadon green paint with rich gold guild accents, she was able to give new life to the ensemble. The black floral runner and upholstery give the set a finishing touch. We’re betting when the donor sees this table and chairs she’ll be ready to buy it back!!
#11 IVORY LEATHER CHAISE LOUNGE
When Ray and Gloria Mikesch bought this chair they knew immediately when they got it home that the stately leather chaise was destined for bigger better things. It just didn’t fit their busy pilot lifestyle!! The chair became lonely and soon became a ramp for the grandchildren’s race cars. The Gamma House Chair…ity auction was the perfect home for this treasure. It’s French inspired butterfly pillows will be a classic addition to any home.
#12 BLACK PUB STOOL
The only story on this chair is on the kindness of the folks at Factory Return Outlet. They donated this black pub chair with cane seat.
#13 CHILDS WICKER RAZORBACK ROCKER
This wonderful children’s wicker rocker had seen better days when Lane and Judy Strother donated it! Years of enjoyment had faded its paint but Natalie Slusser saw a diamond in the rough. She removed the seat and freshened up the upholstery adding the iconic Razorback hog and repainted the wicker in white with Razorback red accents. When their grandsons see it they may just have to buy it back!!
#14 RAZORBACK STOOL
This stool was pulled out of a basement and offered up for creativity!! Natalie Slusser, owner of Mommy and Me, was up for the challenge. She hand painted the Arkansas Razorback themed stool. Perfect for Hog fans…..WOOO PIG SOOOIE!!
#15 VERSAILLES CHAIR
One look at this chair and your mind wanders to the Palace at Versailles. This chair is exquisite with its French inspired detail and gold guild paint, beautiful upholstery, and ladylike style. You can almost imagine the dignitaries and royals who would’ve enjoyed its comfort. The chair was graciously donated and selected from Martha Gregory’s treasure trove.
#16 BOMBER ROCKER
If you are a Mountain Home-ian….your blood surely runs blue and gold. This rocker was donated by board member Peggy Welch after she inherited it from a family member. It was refinished and painted by several Gamma House volunteers as it seemed to drink paint. Perfect for the Bomber fan…..GO BIG BLUE!!
#17 MRS ORANGE PAISLEY
Fall’s hottest color is predicted to be orange so this little number is at the height of fashion!! Found at a local thrift store with peeling paint, distasteful accents, and a hideous faded flower arrangement and candle glued in her seat, this vibrant little lady was planned and painted by members of the Gamma House board of directors. Her playful paisley seat was a leftover scrap of fabric that was donated and upholstered by Kristi Kesler. A chair that just puts a smile on your face. She will brighten the darkest corner!!
#18 ART TABLE AND CHAIR
Clint Pevril, art teacher at Hackler Intermediate School, teamed up with his students and donated this one of a kind table and chair. It was painted with the handprints of 4th graders on a white surface. The students were asked to “free draw” and their art was collaged together. Added with words like happiness, optimism, and innocence, the chair is indicative of the attitudes of the students. Also included is artwork done by Mr. Pevril himself. The set is inspiring and hopeful of the generations to come.
#19 RETRO HIGHCHAIR
Classic cars and an era long since passed come to mind when you see this retro highchair. It’s sparkling red vinyl seat and silver accents are reminiscent of drive ins, bobby socks, and classic automobiles. This piece was repurposed and donated by Paige Robinson.
