The Mountain Home boys did something last night they had not done in over five years when they played at Little Rock Central. Brad Haworth has the details.
It had been five years and two days since the last time Mountain Home had won a conference game on the road but that streak is over as the Bombers topped Little Rock Central 44-40. The last conference road win for Mountain Home was January 16, 2008 at Sylvan Hills.
Jack Schmitt battled through foul trouble to have a big night and spark a fourth quarter rally. Mountain Home trailed 34-30 going into the fourth quarter but opened the period with an 8-0 run, all eight points from Schmitt, and never trailed again. Schmitt scored 11 of his game high 22 points in the final quarter.
The Bombers improve to 7-9 overall and 2-2 in 7A/6A East Conference play.
Central falls to 3-9 and 0-4. They got 10 points from Brenden Pike.
In the girl's game, for the second Friday night in a row, the Lady Bombers were blown out on the road, falling last night to Central 53-28. Mountain Home committed 29 turnovers and made only four field goals in the game. They started the contest by going 13 minutes and 23 seconds without a field goal and didn't get their second for another six minutes and three seconds.
Early on, it was a close contest. But after Mountain Home had taken a 7-6 lead, the Lady Tigers responded with a 15-0 run and never trailed again.
Katie Kapler led the Mountain Home scoring with 10 points as they fall 12-5 and 2-2 in league play.
Central was led by Alaysia Ready with 12 ponts. The Lady Tigers improve to 12-4 and 4-0.
The Mountain Home teams will host North Little Rock Tuesday night.
