When a reporter from the gossip site approached the Filipino singer at an airport recently and asked him if Perry has ever given him any advice, Pineda admitted that he’s never met him.

“I’m longing to at least shake his hand,” said Arnel. “I haven’t had the chance for the last nine years.”

Journey is on the shortlist of nominees for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame next year, and Pineda told TMZ he’s hoping the group gets chosen for the honor “so maybe I get to see him.”

Asked whether he would be inducted along with his band mates, Arnel said, “No, it’s only for the original. I’m OK with that.”

The TMZ reporter then coaxed Pineda to sing a little bit of the Journey classic “Don’t Stop Believin’,” which both agreed is one of the best songs of all time.

Journey currently has received the most online votes of any of this year’s 19 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominees, although the RockHall.com poll‘s results only has a minor impact on which artists are chosen for induction.
