Credit: Travis ShinnLynyrd Skynyrd guitarist Gary Rossington and his wife, Skynyrd backing vocalist Dale Krantz-Rossington, recently released a collaborative album titled Take It on Faith under the moniker Rossington. Gary says that he and Dale, who first played together in the Skynyrd spinoff group The Rossington Collins Band, decided to make the album for the many fans who’d asked them over the years when they were going to do another project together.
“I hope the fans like it,” he tells ABC Radio. “I’m sure they will ’cause it’s great stuff.”
Rossington says he and his wife “were happy to do the album, while revealing that it actually was recorded a few years ago while Skynyrd was on a break from touring, then was shelved for a while before his record company finally decided to release it.
Gary says that Take It on Faith initially was going to be “a total blues album,” but as the project came together, “we kind of branched out” into some gospel and songs influenced by other genres.
Joining the Rossingtons on the album were a number of respected guest artists, including blues-rock veteran Delbert McClinton, late Little Feat drummer Richie Hayward, late Black Oak Arkansas guitarist Jack Holder and one-time Fleetwood Mac singer Bekka Bramlett. In addition, ZZ Top‘s Billy Gibbons co-wrote one of the tracks, “Good Side of Good,” which Gary describes as “just a great little blues tune.”
Take It on Faith features strong musical performances throughout its 12 tracks, but perhaps more than anything else, the album serves as a showcase for Dale’s powerful, soulful voice.
“When I fell in love with her and got married and everything in Rossington Collins Band days…she was just this great, great wailin’ singer…And now she’s just the same,” Gary says. “She can still sing her a** off.”
