A Springfield man, 36-year-old James Scott Jackson, is scheduled to appear in Howell County Court Friday on charges stemming from a high-speed, multi-county pursuit on December eighth. According to the Ozark County Times, Jackson faces felony charges of resisting arrest or detention by fleeing, creating a substantial risk of injury or death to any person in Howell County, assault to a police officer, possession of methamphetamine, and resisting a lawful stop in Ozark County.
According to a probable cause statement filed in the Ozark County case, Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers attempted to pull over a white Lexus SUV, driven by Jackson, with no license plate. The chase began on highway 63 just north of West Plains. Deputies from the Howell County Sheriff’s office joined the pursuit which continued onto US Highway 160 West. Jackson continued to attempt to evade officers, often driving on the wrong side of the road, going down State Route MM, on to route K to KK, and then Crossing into Ozark County on State Route H, traveling north toward Dora.
The vehicle began to slow just south of the intersection of Highways H and 181 when an officer pulled around the front of it in an attempt to end the pursuit. Jackson allegedly drove the vehicle into the passenger rear door of the patrol car and the chase was over.
Officers removed the passenger, Mary Carr Bunning, and attempted to arrest Jackson who resisted, yelling at officers to shoot him. Officers had to deploy a tazer in order to make the arrest. It was later discovered he had two warrants out of Greene County for possession of a controlled substance and a parole violation.
The vehicle was the passengers. She gave permission to search and officers found a small amount of meth and a hypodermic needle. She was charged to with possession of meth, as well, and eventually transported to the Ozark County Jail.
Jackson is currently being held in the Howell County Jail on a $20,000 bond.
