Scott Olson/Getty ImagesPresident Obama delivered his farewell address in Chicago Tuesday night — with the help of Pearl Jam‘s Eddie Vedder.
Before the Obama spoke, the Evanston, Illinois native performed a short acoustic set of songs that including covers of songs by Patti Smith and Neil Young.
Vedder performed Smith’s “People Have the Power” and Young’s “Rockin’ in the Free World,” backed by the Chicago Children’s Choir. He also played “Something Inside So Strong,” by British songwriter Labi Siffre, as well as his own song, “Rise,” off the Into the Wild soundtrack.
During the set, Vedder praised Obama, telling the crowd, “No matter what they talk about, repealing this or taking things away from us or going backwards on progressive issues, they can’t take away what this administration or what this great man or what this great first family has instilled in our hearts. That is ours.”
