
Senator Missy Irvin from Mountain View’s District 18 says Senate Bill 20, which provides a stiffer penalty for aggravated assault on a police or correctional officer or shooting at a law enforcement officer passed Tuesday by a vote of 34 to zero.
Senator Irvin says the bill is different from other legislation that enhances penalties by adding years to prison sentences or increasing the amounts of fines offenders must pay.

Instead, under the new bill passed Tuesday, it creates a new category of felony for assaulting law officers and prison guards.
