Crooked Creek’s water-quality standards will be adjusted to current conditions. According to Emily Walkenhorst of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, the cities of Yellville and Harrison operate the wastewater treatment plants that discharge into the creek, and both cities made the request for the adjustment.
The rule would raise allowable levels to reflect what the cities are discharging into the water. Yellville and Harrison conducted economic and environmental studies on the rule and determined the best path forward was the rule change. The study found the change would have no effect on aquatic life.
The new standards are set to be within drinking-water standards and keep the wastewater treatment plants from being noncompliant.
