Charges are pending against a Mississippi man arrested Saturday in Baxter County. According to Sheriff John Montgomery, 29-year-old Thomas Swindol of Cleveland is in the Baxter County Detention Center with a preliminary of $50,000 after he was stopped with several drugs.
Sheriff Montgomery states his office received a call Saturday afternoon of a reckless driver eastbound on Highway 62 and 412 in the Henderson area, and it was reported the driver was reported to have almost caused a head-on collision. An Arkansas Game and Fish Commission wildlife officer was in the area and was able to get behind the blue sedan. The officer initiated a traffic stop at the intersection of Highway 62 and Florence Drive after allegedly witnessing a traffic code violation, and Sheriff's Deputy Charles Menschik arrived as the stop was being made.
As both officers approached the vehicle, marijuana was reported to be in plain view in the vehicle. As he was questioned, Swindol admitted other driugs were in the vehicle. As the officers searched the vehicle, they found and seized nearly 1.5 grams of methamphetamine, approximately 54.8 grams of marijuana, nearly 14.7 grams of cocaine and multiple controlled substance pills including Suboxone, Xanax Alprazolam, Oxycontin, Ecstasy, Clonazepam, Acetaminophen/Hydrocodone and amphetamine salts. Drug paraphernalia was also seized.
Swindol is expected to be formally charged Monday after an affidavit is submitted to the prosecuting attorney's office. A circuit court date is to be determined.
