
In high school basketball, the 3A-1 East Conference Tournament wrapped up its opening round Tuesday at Mountain View.
Melbourne’s girls watched their season come to an end as they fell to the host Lady Yellowjackets 60-51. Mountain View will be paired with Bergman in Thursday’s semifinals.
Top-seeded Valley Springs invoked the mercy rule in the other girls’ game as they routed another group of Lady Tigers from Green Forest by a score of 65-31. Valley Springs’ next opponent on Thursday will be Clinton.
Melbourne did not fare any better on the boys’ bracket as they lost to Valley Springs 80-38. The Tigers will face Clinton in the semifinal round.
The number one seed from Marshall also clinched a regional tournament berth with a 60-47 victory over Green Forest. The Bobcats’ semifinal opponent will be Yellville-Summit.
Timbo’s boys were able to advance to the semifinals of the 1A-2 South Conference Tournament at West Side High School in Greers Ferry. The Tigers pounded South Side-Bee Branch 78-50, and their next opponent on Thursday will be Concord.
Both of Western Grove’s teams came away with wins in the 1A-1 East Conference Tournament at the Pioneer Pavilion on the south campus of North Arkansas College in Harrison. The Lady Warriors began by defeating Deer 47-37. The Western Grove boys followed by eliminating Mount Judea 55-41.
