
The National Weather Service in Little Rock has confirmed an EF-2 tornado, with winds estimated at 120 miles per hour, was produced from storms across the Twin Lakes Area late Monday and early Tuesday morning. A supercell thunderstorm tracked east, northeast over northern Arkansas and produced a tornado in Newton and Searcy counties with a damage path of 36.7 miles. The tornado touched down north of Mossville, in Newton County, and lifted east northeast of Saint Joe in Searcy County.
Along the path the Parthenon Post Office and a residence north of Vendor were destroyed, several homes were damaged and some outbuildings were damaged or destroyed.
North of Saint Joe, a family of five heard the tornado warning and went into a storm shelter before the tornado hit. Their manufactured home was completely destroyed and had they stayed in the home it is likely the wouldn't have survived.
North of Saint Joe trees and power lines were blown down, outbuildings and a residence sustained significant damage.
Only one minor injury was reported.
