Norfork firefighters fight large brush fire on Sheid Road

Firefighters from the Norfork Fire Department, with assistance from the Forest Service, battled a brush fire that destroyed nearly 10 acres and a quarter mile of railroad tracks Wednesday afternoon. Norfork Fire Chief Frankie Baker says the fire at the Sheid Farm at the end of Sheid Road took over five hours to contain. He says the fire, that spread into the woods, was reported shortly after 12:30 and is believed to be caused by a reignited brush fire. Baker says the fire was kept from spreading to structures, although both sides of the rail road track were destroyed.
The Norfork Fire Department employed three trucks, four Norfork firefighters and three firefighters from the forest service.
