Deadline approaching for Arkansas Academic Challenge Scholarships

The deadline is approaching to apply for the Arkansas Academic Challenge Scholarship. Scholarship and grant money is available to Arkansas residents enrolled in public and private nonprofit two-year and four-year colleges and universities. The deadline is June 15th.Proceeds from the Office of the Arkansas Lottery are used to provide the funding for Arkansas residents pursuing higher education. Eligibility is based on three categories; traditional incoming freshman, current achievers and nontraditional students. An applicant should be an Arkansas resident for at least 12 months before enrollment. For a full list of eligibility criteria visit academic challenge.

Lottery Director Bishop Woosley says he enjoys this time of year, when scholarships and grants are made available.

According to the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery website, from 2011 to 2016 Baxter county has been awarded 2,311 scholarships; Boone County, 2,637; Fulton County, 859; Izard County, 911; Marion County, 770; Newton County, 634; Searcy County, 807; and Stone County received 885.

Woosley says those who participate in state lotteries are directly contributing to a student’s success.
The scholarships are not “needs-based” and are available to anyone who meets the criteria and can be used with other scholarships, regardless of the income of parents.
