The MHHS Athletic Hall of Honor is one day away from its induction ceremony held annually to wrap up Homecoming week. The Class of 2017 will include a posthumous induction of local businessman and Bomber supporter Mickey Huskey.

Huskey was a student in the former Bruno School District until his sophomore year when he moved to Yellville. He graduated from Yellville-Summit in 1967.

Huskey and his wife Linda bought the Lockeroom in 1981 beginning years of support for Mountain Home Schools and their youth sports. He supported surrounding area schools and their sports as well. The Lockeroom has sponsored an estimated 100 teams in Mountain Home and and nearly 100 teams in surrounding towns going as far south as Vilonia.

Huskey donated two dozen baseballs to Mountain Home’s American Legion baseball program in 1982, and that turned into a sponsorship of the program for 33 years. He gave them baseballs, bats, helmets and their pinstripe uniforms, and he also assisted with a Greyhound bus.

Even though Huskey graduated as a Panther, he was an avid Bomber fan. He and his wife supported Mountain Home High School athletics in every sport donating trophies and giveaways and fundraisers for the school or athletic department.

Huskey was also giving of his time. He coached the Pee Wee teams his son Mitch, daughter Mandi and granddaughters played on, and other teams as well. He also spent much of his time building a platform to showcase athletes, and his main goal was to help athletes further their education through baseball. Mitch Huskey currently serves as the athletic director at Mountain Home High School, and he says his family are always proud whenever his dad gets honored or complimented by the community.
