Christopher Mangrum, who attempted to rob a local pharmacy in early July last year, will undergo a mental evaluation to determine if he is fit to proceed with his case.According to court records, the 42-year-old Mangrum, who lists an address in Hardy, is alleged to have entered the pharmacy shortly after 2 p.m. on July 5th with a bandanna over his face and latex gloves on his hands. He is reported to have entered an “employees only” area and demanded opioids.

Pharmacy employees did not meet his demands and he left the building empty handed after only 30 seconds.

Mangrum reportedly did not display a weapon.

The Mountain Home Police Department issued a be-on-the lookout (BOLO) bulletin and Mangrum and his vehicle were stopped at a location along Highway 62/412 West about an hour after the BOLO was issued.

Mangrum’s mother and two children were in the vehicle at the time he was found and arrested.

He is charged with criminal attempt to commit robbery.

His attorney, Gray Delllinger of Melbourne, told the court there were “mental issues” Mangrum was dealing with and asked the court to approve the examination since mental disease and defect will likely be an issue in the case.

Circuit Judge John Putman approved the request. All activity in the case will stop until the evaluation is completed and a report given to the court.
