(AP) – A county in central Arkansas has been awarded $50,0 to
find and secure housing for people as part of a plan to implement two federal homelessness programs.The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports that Pulaski County’s Community Services Department received the emergency solutions grant through the Department of Housing and Urban Development after applying last year.

The yearlong grant will fund two projects, with $30,000 going toward “rapid re-housing” and $20,000 going toward homelessness prevention. Rapid re-housing moves people living on the streets and in shelters into permanent housing as quickly as possible.
County officials will distribute surveys beginning Monday to find eligible people for the programs.
The Central Arkansas Team Care for the Homeless reports that there were nearly 1,000 homeless people in the greater Little Rock area last year.
