29 local basketball teams advance to regionals

The Twin Lakes Area will be represented by 29 area basketball teams during this week’s regional tournaments.

Two local girls’ teams will compete in the Class 2A North Regional Tournament at Marked Tree. Cotter meets Carlisle Wednesday at 4 p.m., and Salem faces Earle Thursday at 7:00.

The Class 1A Region 2 Tournament will be held at Armorel. In girls’ action, Norfork takes on Ridgefield Christian Wednesday at 4:00, Viola will be paired with Bay Wednesday at 7:00, Calico Rock plays Maynard Thursday at 4:00, and Mammoth Spring will be matched up with Armorel Thursday at 7:00. On the boys’ side, Izard County meets Ridgefield Christian Wednesday at 5:30, Mammoth Spring faces Bay Thursday at 5:30, and Calico Rock takes on Rector Thursday at 8:30.

Melbourne will be the site for the Class 3A Region 3 Tournament. On the girls’ bracket, Bergman will begin Wednesday at 4:00 against Riverside, Mountain View goes up against Rivercrest Wednesday at 7:00, the host Lady Bearkatz plays Corning Thursday at 4:00, and Valley Springs meets Hoxie Thursday at 7:00 in a rematch of last year’s Class 3A state championship game. In the boys’ games, Marshall faces Manila Wednesday at 5:30, Valley Springs takes on Corning Wednesday at 8:30, and Yellville-Summit plays Osceola Thursday at 8:30.

The Class 1A Region 1 Tournament will be played at Alpena. In girls’ action, Omaha and Jasper will tip off Wednesday at 4:00, Bruno-Pyatt will be paired with Lead Hill Wednesday at 7:00, Western Grove goes up against the host Lady Leopards Thursday at 4:00, and St. Joe will be matched up with Kingston Thursday at 7:00. On the boys’ side, Lead Hill faces Western Grove Wednesday at 5:30, Bruno-Pyatt takes on Omaha Wednesday at 8:30, and Jasper plays Kingston Thursday at 5:30.

Two area teams will play their first games in the Class 1A Region 3 Tournament Thursday at West Side High School in Greers Ferry. Rural Special’s girls meet Sacred Heart at 7:00, and the Timbo boys face Wonderview at 8:30.
