Candidate filing period continues Monday

Arkansas’ candidate filing period for the 2018 election cycle continued Monday with a large number of Libertarian candidates completing the process at the state level. The Libertarian Party selected its nominees at a convention over the weekend.

A race has developed for Senate District 17. Kevin Vornheder, of the Libertarian Party, from Mountain Home filed. He will go up against incumbent Senator Scott Flippo of Bull Shoals. Senator Flippo is seeking his second term representing Senate District 17 covering portions of Baxter, Marion and Boone counties.

Incumbent Marilyn Williamson of Mountain Home filed for the District 7 Justice of the Peace seat Monday. She will face a challenge from Charles Osgood.

Another filing from the Twin Lakes Area includes Representative John Payton, who filed Friday. He represents District 64 which includes portions of Cleburne, Baxter, Stone, Searcy and Marion Counties. Payton is serving his third term in the Arkansas House.
