A fire at a Midway residence Wednesday morning resulted in the loss of a camper trailer. According to a Baxter County Sheriff’s Office incident report, the fire started in a fire pit and went out of control due to high winds.
One of the residents, 37-year-old Lance Pelzel, reportedly wanted to start a fire in the pit. His roommate, 39-year-old Jason Chorba, told him not to because of the high winds. Chorba went to bed and was later awakened by a fire outside. He looked outside, saw Pelzel’s vehicle, woke Pelzel up and made him help to attempt to put the fire out.
Chorba reported to authorities Pelzel started the fire Tuesday night, and it jumped out of the fire pit. Chorba yelled at Pelzel about the fire because it also set the camper trailer ablaze. Pelzel got in his vehicle and drove away, and Chorba contaced the fire department. Fire Chief Don Tucker stated he wanted the complaint investigated and Pelzel arrested.
The fire spread out from the pit but did not reach other occupied structures.
