A Mountain Home man, 26-year-old Gary Lee Barker, released from the Baxter County Detention Center on Sunday after posting bond on felony drug charges, is back in the county jail on new drug charges.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Barker and 27-year-old Brittany Saunders of Midway were arrested Monday afternoon after Department of Human Services investigators asked for assistance from the Mountain Home Police Department.

A DHS investigator told police he had been sent to the residence along Powers Street to investigate possible drug use in the residence with a four-year-old child present.

Officers found Saunders and Barker in the residence, along with her mother, a four-year-old child and an unidentified male.

Officers reported a heavy fog of marijuana smoke throughout the residence and particularly strong in the garage. Barker told officer he had “smoked a roach” he had found in his mother’s possession in the garage. He led officers to the garage and presented them with a bag of green vegetable matter, weighing approximately 30 grams, rolling papers and multiple marijuana “roaches.”

During the search, Saunders led officers to a pipe used for smoking methamphetamine in her bedroom and later to a box containing multiple smoking pipes with narcotic residue, other drug paraphernalia, approximately .95 of a gram of a crystalline substance, and 11.5 grams of a vegetable matter. The crystalline substance field tested positive for methamphetamine.

Barker was charged with three misdemeanor offenses, including endangering the welfare of a minor, with bond set at $1,640.

Saunders faces two felony charges, possession of a controlled substance, methamphetamine, and possession of drug paraphernalia, as well as three misdemeanor offenses, including endangering the welfare of a minor, with bond set at $5,250.

Barker and his mother were arrested Saturday night on multiple charges after they were seen leaving their hotel room, which was the subject of numerous complaints of drug activity. Barker and 50-year-old Valeory Hodges were both booked into the Baxter County Detention Center. In addition to the drug-related charges, Hodges was charged with being a habitual offender and a probation violation. Her bond was set at $10,000. Barker was released early Sunday morning after posting a $5,000 bond.
