Boone County Sheriff Mike Moore says a Harrison man, 37-year-old James Allen Poston, is in custody on multiple felony charges after he allegedly admitted to shooting at a motorist Friday. Poston is being held in the Boone County jail with bond set by the court at $150,000.

According to Moore, Boone County deputies responsed to the area of Rock Springs Road to reports of shots being fired. A witness reported a male in a green hatchback passenger car had fired multiple shots with a firearm through the vehicles’ back glass towards a motorist. Shortly following the initial complaint, a second report came in to the Boone County Sheriff’s Office from a resident in the area who heard the gun shots. The caller reported his residence was hit and the homeowners were inside.

Boone County Deputies were able to locate a suspect vehicle matching the description given. Poston was taken into custody and found to be in possession of a firearm. He allegedly admitted to officers he fired the shots at the vehicle, believing an occupant in that vehicle was pointing a firearm at him.

Based on the evidence and circumstances of the events, investigators believe Poston is also responsible for the shot that hit the homeowner’s house as well as the assault on the motorist.

Poston, who is a convicted felon and a registered sex offender, is being held on a number of felony charges including unlawful discharge of a firearm from a vehicle, aggravated assault, being a felon in possession of a firearm and failure to comply with registration and reporting requirements for a sex offender.
