A Mountain Home man, 35-year-old Nathan McDonagh, has been arrested on a felony firearms charge after law enforcement found him in the children’s area of Hickory Park after midnight Saturday. According to the probable cause affidavit, a Mountain Home Police officer observed a suspicious male in the park shortly after that time. The officer noted the smell of intoxicants on the man, later identified as McDonagh.

When asked why he was in the park at that hour, McDonagh did not have an answer and could not produce any identification, instead providing the officer with a false name and date of birth. When advised an Arkansas State Police trooper would be arriving to fingerprint him, McDonagh provided his correct name and date of birth.

When searched, the officer located a loaded 9mm pistol in the waistband of McDonagh’s pants. The weapon was defaced and covered by McDonagh’s backpack. The search also revealed 28 rounds of 9mm ammunition in the Mountain Home man’s backpack. All serial numbers had been ground off the gun and were unreadable.

He told the officer he found the gun by Walmart.

McDonagh has been charged with a felony count of possession of a defaced firearm, as well as a misdemeanor count of obstruction of governmental operations.
