Mountain Home Police have released the identity of the victim in an early Wednesday morning stabbing incident.
Police Chief Carry Manuel says 46-year-old Michael D. Newberry of Mountain Home remains under the care of Baxter Regional Medical Center. Both Manuel and BRMC declined to provide details on Newberry’s condition. He is reportedly suffering from multiple stab wounds.
Manuel says the Mountain Home man was in his parked vehicle on the business parking lot of Thrift and More near the intersection of State Highway 201 North and North Street when he was stabbed.
Upon arrival, officers found fire in the victim’s car.
Wednesday afternoon, Chief Manuel said a Mountain Home man, 46-year-old Eric Guynes, has been charged with criminal attempt to commit murder, first degree battery and assault, arson and first degree criminal mischief in connection with the stabbing incident.
Chief Manuel says Guynes is being held in the Baxter County Detention Center on probable cause pending the formal filing of charges, as well as a parole violation.
A second person detained Wednesday morning with the suspect was interviewed and released without charges.
The two were detained near the intersection of Cardinal Drive and Spring Street just before 7 Wednesday morning and taken into custody.
The apprehension of the two followed the Mountain Home Police Department responding to a 911 call just after 5:00 of the reported stabbing.
Arkansas State Police investigators responded to the scene to work with local agencies on the investigation.
A search warrant was served and a seized van was searched shortly after 10:00. Items of evidence were recovered and will be sent to the Arkansas Crime Lab for analysis.
Bond for Guynes was set at $500,000.
