A Stone County woman, 33-year-old Ann Cheree Staggs of Timbo, has been arrested on a felony domestic battery charge following an incident in which she was allegedly the aggressor.
Stone County Sheriff Lance Bonds says his department responded to a domestic dispute at a residence along Highway 66 West Wednesday where a female had a knife and was reportedly attempting to stab a man.
Upon arrival, the deputy observed a female, later identified as Staggs, lying face down on the side of the highway with a male sitting on top of her holding her down.
Staggs told the officer the male had been the aggressor and had been beating on her. She appeared disoriented as she staggered toward the deputy, smelling of intoxicants.
During the course of the investigation, it was determined Staggs was the aggressor during the incident beginning with an argument between the two. She reportedly became violent, knocking over lamps and throwing items in the bedroom and continuing into the living room where she knocked over a table.
During this time, Staggs grabbed a knife, with the man attempting to take it from her. Staggs is alleged to have cut the back and front of his left arm. She then left the residence, with the victim following her.
Staggs was reported to have attempted to run out in front of vehicles, leading the man to be holding her down when law enforcement arrived. During the course of the incident, a juvenile male was present in the home during the battery.
Staggs was transported to the Stone County Detention Center without further incident. In addition to the domestic battery charge, she faces an enhancement offense of it being committed in the presence of a child.
A bond had not been set as of Thursday afternoon.
