A Mountain View man, 28-year-old William Jarred Nixon, has been arrested after he allegedly attempted to strike a Stone County sheriff’s deputy.

Stone County Sheriff Lance Bonds says deputies from his department were dispatched to an address along Highway 66 on March 15th to check on the welfare of a male individual.

When deputies approached the door of the residence, they could hear yelling and screaming from inside. A female opened the door, allowing officers to see Nixon sitting on the arm of a couch yelling at a girl. Nixon reportedly stopped yelling at others in the residence and focused on the deputies telling them they had no right to be there and to get out.

When Nixon was advised he was under arrest, he attempted to strike one of the deputies. The deputy deflected the strike and attempted to gain control of him. As Nixon pulled away, one of the deputies grabbed his shirt and pulled him toward him. A scuffle ensued, and after several moments, Nixon complied and was taken into custody without further incident. He was transported to the Stone County Detention Center for booking.

He has been charged with felony counts of aggravated assault and battery, as well as being a habitual offender.

His bond was set at $25,000.
