In response to complaints of drug sales and use at two local motels, Mountain Home Police have conducted surveillance in the area, resulting in the arrest of a Lakeview man, 39-year-old Jonathan Rouse.

Mountain Home Police Chief Carry Manuel says officers from his department were conducting surveillance Thursday and observed a vehicle leaving a local motel driving at an excessive rate of speed.

Officers made contact with the driver of the vehicle, later identified as Rouse, after he parked at another local motel.. Rouse told officers his driver’s license was suspended but he was going to the hospital. When asked where he was coming from, Rouse said he was driving from Lakeview. Officers then asked if he drove by the hospital coming into town. Rouse said he wanted to see a friend before he went to the hospital.

A check with the Arkansas Crime Information Center confirmed his driver’s license was suspended and showed Rouse is on felony probation with a search waiver on file. Officers found one bag containing cut up fentanyl patches and one other intact patch in a cup holder in the center console. Rouse said pursuant to Miranda he did not have a prescription for fentanyl. He said the vehicle belongs to his mother, and she did not have a prescription for the drug either. He then said a “buddy” left them in the car. The patches will be sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for analysis.

Rouse has been charged with a felony count of possession of a controlled substance, fentanyl, as well as having a suspended driver’s license.

His bond was set at $2,500.
