Nykola Kotyk of rural Mountain Home, who faces charges stemming from an incident in which he was reported to have swung a hatchet at law enforcement officers, made an appearance in Baxter County Circuit Court Thursday.

Kotyk declared to the court he was “100 percent sane” and “100 percent innocent”. He charged it was Baxter County deputies who attacked him and told the court he might press charges based on their actions.

Kotyk, who said he was a water tower painter, told the court he had lived in the area 15 years and been a “good citizen”.

Motions have been approved by the court to have Kotyk undergo a psychological evaluation to determine if he is fit to proceed in the cases against him.

Kotyk’s arrest stemmed from an incident in late December last year when Baxter County deputies responded to a disturbance call. They reported finding Kotyk standing in his yard “screaming and cussing to the top of his voice”.

According to court records, the deputies had to use Tasers to get control of Kotyk. While they were grappling with him, Kotyk is alleged to have swung what turned out to be a hatchet at the deputies. He demanded the deputies go and immediately arrest his neighbors.

Kotyk said his neighbors had electrified his house and placed a force field around his residence in addition to putting chips and bugs into his body.

All activity in Kotyk’s case will stop until the psychological evaluation is completed.
