Sales tax numbers down for March

Spending in Baxter County and the City of Mountain Home show a negative trend as reflected in the March sales tax numbers recently released by the Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration.In Baxter County, the numbers released for March, which reflect sales tax collected in January, show a 2.4 percent decrease compared to last year, according to Baxter County Treasurer Jenay Mize.

Sales tax numbers for the City of Mountain Home were unavailable at the time of this report as the newly appointed treasurer settles in to her position.

The county sales tax is divided among the county and the eight municipalities, with Mountain Home leading the way with $147,351, Gassville collected $24,598, while Cotter picked up $11,482. Lakeview took in $8,771. Norfork received $6,049. Salesville collected $5,327. The City of Briarcliff netted $2,794 and Big Flat received $1,231.
