Hackler Intermediate School will host its second annual Family STEAM Night and Art Show Tuesday evening from 5:00 to 7:00. This years event will include a production by the Mountain Home Odyssey of the Mind (OM) team, robot presentations by the Bomb Squad and Junior Bomb Squad, and photobooth areas filled with a host of different props.
In the cafeteria, the OM team members will explain what the teams purpose is and how other students can join. They will also be selling popcorn and snow cones for $1 each.
The robotics students will do robot demos and will discuss the ways each of the STEAM subjects applies to the design and building of robots.
Families can sit and work at various makerspaces set up in the library throughout the event. Some of the makerspace topics include coding, roller coaster design, and electronics. Other interactive stations will be set up around the building, including drumming, Stop Motion Animation, and others.
Mrs. Sherry Mohlers Forte Choir will provide live entertainment in the Hackler Courtyard throughout the event.
The art show will take place in the schools gymnasium. Art teacher Kara Morris has worked with Artomé, a school art show framing company, to have Hackler students artwork framed. Families are encouraged to look through the gallery-like setup, and a framed art piece may be purchased for $25 for the first purchase and $22 for each additional purchase.
STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics. The event was born from a conversation between Morris and EAST teacher Becca Martin about the importance of incorporating art and creativity into STEM fields.
