The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Little Rock District, opened five spillway gates Tuesday at Norfork Dam to supplement a hydropower turbine release as it lowers the lake.

Each of the five spillway gates are open one foot to substitute for the one hydropower turbine unit currently offline for routine maintenance.

At 8:00 a.m., five spillway gates began releasing 3,250 cubic feet per second. About 2,750 cubic feet per second is being released through the hydropower turbines for a total release of 6,000 cubic feet per second, the equivalent to two hydropower turbines at full power.

The combined spillway and turbine release will continue until the second hydropower unit is brought back on line. Maintenance on the offline unit should be complete by Friday.
