Credit: Dean KarrR.E.M.‘s Peter Buck and singer-songwriter Joseph Arthur have announced the details of their debut album as the fittingly named duo Arthur Buck. The self-titled effort will be released on June 15.
The first preview of Arthur Buck is a song called “I Am the Moment,” which you can listen to now on YouTube.
Buck and Arthur have known each other since the latter opened for R.E.M. in 2004. The two finally decided to collaborate after a chance encounter in Mexico at the end of last year and proceeded to write eight songs together in three days.
“My first thought was, ‘Hey, I’ll get Peter to play acoustic guitar on some of the stuff I’m working on!'” Arthur remembers. “So I started showing him songs. But he was like, ‘That’s cool. Now check this out.’ And he started playing chords and whatnot. So I put my guitar down and began singing over his changes, and it was magical. It was easy. And these great songs just started popping out.”
Arthur Buck plans to support the album with a tour, the details of which are forthcoming.
