The Baxter County Republican Committee has a new chairman following a meeting Tuesday evening.

Brian Plumlee was selected from among two candidates presented by a nominating committee. Mickey Pendergrass, Baxter County Judge and State Committeeman for the county committee, was the second candidate.

Plumlee, who serves as clerk for the City of Mountain Home, was elected with 54 members of the county committee present.

Plumlee’s election to the chairman’s position follows the resignation in May of Richard Caster, who has served in the role for the past 18 months. Caster says he stepped down after taking a new employment position. He says in evaluating the two roles, he could not see an easy path to continuing to serve as county chairman.

Plumlee will complete the remaining six months of Caster’s two-year term and can seek reelection in January.

When asked about his accomplishments during his tenure, Caster says the committee membership has grown substantially and a successful Lincoln Day Dinner with Hillsdale College professor of politics Dr. Mickey Craig brought attendees from across the state and raised about $12,000.
