As Mountain Home finished hosting the Cal Ripken Ten-Year-Old North Arkansas State Baseball Tournament two days ago, the city is hosting another big event this week. Keller Park will be the site for the Babe Ruth Southwest Regional Softball Tournament with the opening ceremonies beginning Tuesday.
Twin Lakes Youth Softball President Linda Lucy says in addition to the local teams, several other teams from five different age groups will be in action Wednesday through Sunday with a trip to the Babe Ruth World Series on the line.

The seven states making up the Babe Ruth League’s Southwest Region include Arkansas, Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.
Before the teams take the field Wednesday, the tournament will have opening ceremonies Tuesday beginning with a dinner for the players, coaches and families.

This is the second of three tournaments the city of Mountain Home is hosting this year in the Babe Ruth League. The Babe Ruth Baseball 13-Year-Old World Series is set for August on Pitts Field at McClain Park. Lucy says tournaments like these have the potential of providing an economic boost to the Twin Lakes Area.

The five champions from each age group will be invited to take part in the Babe Ruth Softball World Series later this month at Treasure Coast, Florida.
