Bull Shoals Lake has received top marks in a recent report from Ozarks Water Watch. The 10th-annual “Status of the Watershed Report” is a summary of data from 12 monitoring water projects designed to determine the water quality in the Upper White River basin in northwest Arkansas and southwest Missouri.

According to the Ozark County Times, a chart in the report compares collected data from the sub-basins at Bull Shoals Lake, Beaver Lake, James River, Table Rock Lake (excluding James River) and Lake Taneycomo. Bull Shoals was the only sub-basin with high quality ratings in all six data groups comparing dissolved oxygen, lake water clarity, total nitrogen, total phosphorus, E. coli bacteria and invertebrates.

The report also targets erosion as one of the top current concerns stating it can take away land, destroy streambanks and shorelines and carry nutrients and other chemicals into the water. The report also gives examples of how residents can do their part to prevent erosion. The complete report can be seen online at ozarkswaterwatch.org.
