Tim Mosenfelder/Getty ImagesSeptember 21 is always a celebration for Earth, Wind & Fire fans, but this year, it’s even more special.  That’s because this year marks the 40th anniversary of their gold-certified #1 single “September, which begins with the unforgettable line, “Do you remember/The 21st night of September?”

Group co-founder Verdine White told TMZ that September 21 is always special for the band, and even more so 40 years after recording the song for the The Best of Earth, Wind & Fire, Vol. 1 album.

“It’s like our Mardi Gras,” the bass player says, after performing a brief, impromptu, a cappella version of the song with original member Ralph Johnson.

The song always receives a spike in YouTube views on September 21. In fact, this time last year, the video saw a 286% increase with 797k views in one day, according to the streaming service.
