LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) _ Arkansas health officials say the state has recorded
its first flu death of the season.

The Arkansas Department of Health says the person was between the ages of 45
and 64 and had not been vaccinated. The state did not release where the person
lived.

Arkansas is urging residents to get vaccinated for the flu after a particularly
deadly flu season last year. The state recorded 227 deaths last flu season,
which was the most on record for the past three decades.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, an estimated 80,0
people died nationwide last flu season from the illness, which was the highest
death toll in at least four decades.
