A Midway man, living with a woman when she was jailed after allegedly injuring her 18-month-old daughter — and who faces drug charges of his own, is now named in an order of protection filed by yet another woman.

The second woman asks Harvey Lee Honeycutt III be kept away from her home and children, both of whom both carry the last name Honeycutt. In addition, the woman asked she be given custody of the family’s pet rat, Rufus.

The 27-year-old Honeycutt was arrested in late September when a Baxter County deputy sheriff and a bail bond company agent went to Honeycutt’s listed address along State Highway 126 North to seek him out on an outstanding warrant for failure to appear in court.

During the arrest, the deputy reported finding five small plastic bags of methamphetamine in Honeycutt’s clothing. Honeycutt is alleged to have admitted he purchased the methamphetamine from another party for the purpose of resale.

The deputy also took three knives from Honeycutt.

Honeycutt has pled not guilty to charges of possession of methamphetamine and failure to appear. He was released from the Baxter County jail Oct. 12th. His bond is set at $5,000. He was ordered to reappear in circuit court Oct. 25th.

A woman identified as Honeycutt’s current live-in girlfriend, 20-year-old Samantha Laverty, was arrested in mid-September on charges of inflicting serious injuries to her 18-month-old daughter. Honeycutt and Laverty were reported to be living together in the residence along Highway 126 North.

The investigation into the infant’s injuries was launched Sept. 11th when the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office received a call from Baxter Regional Medical Center regarding suspicious injuries to a young female child.

The little girl was transferred to Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock, where she was treated for a broken femur. The staff at Children’s also expressed “great concern” for the multiple bruises on the child’s face.

In addition to her injuries, the child tested positive for high levels of methamphetamine, cannabinoids and THC in her system. The medical staff at Children’s reported the amount of methamphetamine in the child’s’s system was 150 times more than is required to show positive in the body.

Honeycutt’s live-in girlfriend is charged with second-degree battery and endangering the welfare of a minor.

Laverty — who is alleged to have told investigators several conflicting stories of how her small child sustained the injuries — entered a not guilty plea to the charges against her during an earlier session of Baxter County Circuit Court. During her court appearance, Laverty disavowed the use of drugs and denied ever laying a hand on her child.

It was shortly after her initial court appearance, her live-in boyfriend was arrested for possessing drugs.

Laverty’s’s bond in the child injury case is set at $25,000. She is scheduled to reappear in circuit court Nov. 29th.
