An Oakland man, 38-year-old John Dale Franks, has been arrested on a felony charge of theft of property in connection with a motorcycle reported taken from a Midway residence.
According to the probable cause affidavit, the motorcycle was reported missing from a residence along Sweet Fern Lane in late June.
The victim said he was at a friend’s house when a man he only knew as “Little John” took off on the motorcycle. The victim said he got in another vehicle and attempted to follow the motorcycle towards Lakeview.
The motorcycle proceeded into Bull Shoals, where a police officer attempted a traffic stop for the vehicle not having a tail light. The driver refused to stop and continued on until attempting to turn into a driveway along Alford Street where the bike went down after hitting some rocks. The driver, later identified as Franks, fled on foot.
A female at the residence said a man she knew as “John Boy” had been there the night before. Officers searched the residence, but were unable to locate Franks. Returning to the residence later that evening, they spotted Franks outside the home. He fled again on foot, but was apprehended a short time later, hiding in a bush. He allegedly admitted to law enforcement he was the person driving the motorcycle.
Online jail records indicate Franks is being held on a $15,000 bond and for other agencies.
