
Sales tax revenue remains on the positive side for both Baxter County and the City of Mountain Home, according to collection reports for October. The October sales tax collection reports reflect dollars generated in August.
Baxter County Treasurer Jenay Mize says while the most recent collections are not as high as they have been for the last few months, they are still over this month in 2017.

The revenue reflects an increase of 1.4 percent. These dollars also reflect an increase of almost $116,000 over anticipated revenue. Mize says the significance of the anticipated revenue is key. From the anticipated revenue, the quorum court is then allowed to budget up to 90 percent of these dollars for county operations.
On a separate line item, the fifth month for the 1 percent special sales tax for the expansion of the Baxter County Detention Center also brought a positive report.

At Mountain Home City Hall, Treasure Rita Murray says the city’s sales taxes received from the county were up just over 5 percent from the prior year at $182,000.
The city’s sales tax was up 4.4 percent, with revenue standing at $177,926. That figure represents an increase of over $7,500 from 2017.
In addition, the new public safety tax generated over $155,000 in the month of August.
The county sales tax is divided among the county and the eight municipalities. In addition to Mountain Home, Gassville received $30,470, Cotter had $14,223, Lakeview took in $10,865, Norfork with $7,493, Briarcliff with $3,460 and Big Flat with $1,525.
